Getting started
Allow location and notifications
Location shows trucks near you and picks your active Radar; notifications carry your alerts; background location lets alerts arrive while the app is closed.
HeyTruk asks for three permissions, each at the moment it is needed. You can say no to any of them and the app still works; this is what each one changes.
Location
Asked right after sign-in (Turn on location). With it, the Home feed and the map show what is near you, and the app picks the saved Radar you are closest to when you open it.
Without it, you can still type a neighborhood, a cross street or a zip code to look around, and your saved Radars still work for alerts. To turn it on later, open your phone's Settings, find HeyTruk, and set Location to While Using or Always.
Notifications
Asked the first time you follow a truck or turn on alerts for one. Notifications are how a Hey reaches you. Without them, the app still records what it would have sent; you can read it on the Alerts screen, but your phone will not buzz.
To turn them on later: phone Settings → HeyTruk → Notifications.
Background location
Alerts are matched against your active Radar. If you allow location only while using the app, the app cannot tell which Radar you are near when it is closed, so it falls back to your last active one. For alerts that follow you between home and work, set Location to Always. The app shows Needs background location with an Open Settings button when this is what is missing.
What HeyTruk does with location
Location picks your active Radar and powers Near Me. HeyTruk stores the places you save, not where you go. Merchants never see your location; they see demand by area as a count of Radars. Privacy and location lists everything stored.
